ScreenshotCrawler

Questions

Privacy first, because it is the thing most people want settled before pointing a capture tool at their work.

Privacy and security

  • Does Screenshot Crawler upload my screenshots anywhere? No. Captures are assembled inside your browser and written to your own computer, and the extension makes no network requests of its own.
  • Is there any analytics or telemetry?None at all. No analytics, no telemetry, no error reporting and no tracking of any kind.
  • Do I need an account? No. There is no sign-up for the free version and none for Pro.
  • Can it see pages I am not capturing? No. It reads a page only when you start a capture on it. The single script that runs on its own is on screenshotcrawler.com, so a licence key can be activated from the site.
  • Why does it ask for access to all sites?Only if you turn on keeping guides after a page reload, which needs a script that runs at page load. Every capture mode works without granting it.
  • Is my licence key sent to a server? No. Keys are verified offline against a public key built into the extension, so Pro works with no internet connection at all.
  • Can I use it on confidential or internal sites?Yes. Nothing leaves your machine, so an internal dashboard behind a VPN is captured exactly the way any other page is.
  • Does screen recording capture audio or my webcam?Neither. It records the page you have open and nothing outside it, with no microphone and no camera.
  • Is the redaction tool a real redaction?Yes. The black bar replaces the pixels on the image itself before anything is encoded, so the covered content is not present in the exported PNG or PDF in any form.
  • Should I use blur to hide sensitive information?Use the black redaction bar instead. A blur still carries information about what it covered, and blurred text has been reconstructed before now.
  • Does text extraction send my capture to a service? No. Recognition runs on your own machine using an engine shipped inside the extension, with nothing fetched from anywhere.
  • Does this website track me?Nothing third-party loads on a page view. Paddle's checkout loads only when you click Buy, because Paddle is the merchant of record for the payment.
  • What do you store about me if I buy?Only what is needed to reissue a lost key: your email address, your name if you gave one, and the transaction reference. Payment details are handled by Paddle and never reach us.
  • Can I read the source code?Yes. Browser extensions are distributed as source, so every line of what you install can be read and checked. It is readable rather than open source, and the terms of use still apply.

The full detail is in the privacy policy.

What it captures

  • What does this do that other screenshot tools do not?It scrolls the columns and panels that scroll inside a page, not just the page itself, so sidebars and inner scrolling boxes come back at full length.
  • Can it capture two scrolling columns at once?Yes. "Full page including scrolling panels" finds every scrolling area on the page and opens each one out to its full length in a single image.
  • Is there a size limit? No. A 6,000 pixel column comes back as a 6,000 pixel image, on the free version as well as Pro.
  • What can I save as?PNG, JPEG, WebP or PDF, or copy the image straight to the clipboard.
  • Can it capture pages behind a login?Yes. It captures what your own browser session is showing, so anything you can see, it can capture.
  • Are there pages it cannot capture?Browser pages such as about: screens and the add-on store are closed to every extension. The popup tells you before you click rather than failing afterwards.
  • Can I capture a list of URLs in one go?Yes, with Pro. Paste a list of addresses and each one is opened, captured and saved in turn.
  • Does it record video?Yes. The free version records 10 seconds with a watermark, Pro records 2 minutes without one.
  • Can I measure things in a capture?Yes. Pixel rulers, draggable guides and measurements between them are built in, and they are free.
  • Which browsers does it work in?Firefox 142 or newer.

There is a test dashboard with two independently scrolling columns if you want to try it against whatever you use now.

Buying and licences

  • How much is Pro?$19 USD, paid once. It is a lifetime licence rather than a subscription.
  • Does it expire, or renew?Neither. You pay once and it keeps working.
  • What does the free version cost me?Nothing, and nothing is cut short. Every capture mode works with no size limit; free image captures carry a thin credit line along the bottom edge that the Crop button trims off.
  • Where does my licence key come from?It appears on screen the moment payment completes, and Paddle emails you a receipt.
  • I have lost my key.Use Find my key and enter the email address you bought with.
  • Can I use it on more than one computer?A Pro licence is personal to you and not transferable, so use it on your own machines.
  • Who am I buying from?Paddle.com Market Ltd act as the merchant of record, so your contract of sale is with them and they handle payment, tax and refunds.
  • Can I get a refund?Yes, in full, within 14 days of purchase, and you do not have to give a reason. See refunds.

Troubleshooting

  • History is empty, or Compare will not run.Firefox's Never remember history setting blocks the persistent storage those two features need. History still lists recent captures with previews on those profiles, but they cannot be reopened, and Compare will refuse.
  • My keyboard shortcuts do nothing. They ship switched off so nothing fires from a key you did not know was bound. Turn them on under Keyboard shortcuts in Settings.
  • Part of a page did not capture. Some layouts, frames from another domain, and content that loads as you scroll do not always capture cleanly. Raising the delay in Settings gives a slow page time to finish drawing.
  • The credit line is on my capture and I have Pro.Paste your key under Licence in Settings; the credit line stops on the next capture. A capture already taken keeps the line, and the Crop button trims it off.
  • Something else is wrong.Email support@screenshotcrawler.com with the page you were on and what you expected, and a screenshot and I'll look into it.

All six capture modes are free. Pro is $19 once and never expires.
